City of Dallas Approves $1.39M in Grants for Dallas Catalyst Project

On Wednesday, the Dallas City Council unanimously approved $1.39 million in grants that will support our Dallas Catalyst Project (DCP) initiative in the Forest District.

  • Cornerstone Enterprises, Inc. (an affiliate of DCP partner Cornerstone Baptist Church) will receive a $390,000 grant to redevelop a commercial building located at 2839 South Ervay Street that will house the Cornerstone Community Laundromat, the forthcoming Southpoint Community Market, and a new commercial kitchen. Once completed, the site will provide access to affordable laundry services and healthy food choices for residents as well as a low-cost production facility for budding food entrepreneurs.
  • 1632 MLK LLC will receive a $1 million grant for the redevelopment of a commercial retail building at 1632 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Once completed, the site will house a dine-in restaurant and other businesses that will create jobs, stimulate the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard economy, and inspire additional revitalization in the Forest District.

These grants would not be possible without the vision and concerted efforts of the Dallas Catalyst Project partners: St. Philip’s School and Community Center, Cornerstone Baptist Church, and CitySquare, in addition to members of The Real Estate Council Foundation board, the Dallas Catalyst Project committee, recent Associate Leadership Council classes, Young Guns members, and other TREC volunteer members.
