On Friday, December 12, our Associate Leadership Council (ALC) Class of 2024 project team joined Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr. Community Outreach Center (ZWHJCOC) in cutting the ribbon on the nonprofit’s newly renovated Mill City headquarters.
Located at 4608 Wahoo Street, the 2,020-square-foot building is the former site of St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, which was donated to Zan Wesley Holmes in 2020 and renovated by the ALC class for the program’s 2024 community investment project. The renovation is the latest investment within the ongoing Dallas Catalyst Project: Mill City.
Included in the renovations are staff workspace, training and meeting rooms, a café area, and coworking space, as well as new landscaping, painting, and flooring.
The renovation greatly expands Zan Wesley Holmes’ ability to administer its financial literacy, trade and entrepreneurial training, and job placement programs. The organization is named after Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr., who led the St. Luke congregation for more than 30 years.
The St. Luke building was first constructed in 1941 and rebuilt in 1956 following a destructive fire. Prior to its donation to the organization, the building was vacant for more than a decade.
Jessica Stroud of Stream Realty Partners served as lead project manager, while Travis Andres of Andres Construction Company and Adam Batley of DPR Construction managed construction.
The project cost more than $390,000, and ALC project team members said they had raised over $560,000 in in-kind donations of materials and labor from more than 60 companies.
We are grateful to Zan Wesley Holmes for its partnership in entrusting the renovation to the ALC class, and proud of the class members for their leadership in navigating such an ambitious project.
